چکیده

• Vol 10 • March 2008 Ocular Features of Marfan Syndrome The main ocular features of Marfan syndrome, all of which can result in decreased vision, include bilateral ectopia lentis (lens dislocation), myopia and retinal detachment [1]. About 50% of patients with Marfan syndrome are diagnosed by an ophthalmologist; some individuals may present with isolated ocular signs suggestive of this syndrome [2]. Recent advances in diagnosis, together with improved surgical techniques for the repair of ocular complications and the application of prophylaxis have contributed to the preservation of sight in Marfan patients [2]. We present here an updated review of the main clinical ocular features of this disorder, their role in the diagnosis of the syndrome, and their management.

Crystalline lens stretching device for simulation of accommodation.

According to Helmholtz it is nowadays accepted that one of the major reasons for the development of presbyopia is the increasing sclerosis of the crystalline lens. Therefore the investigation of the process of accommodation of the lens is an important field of research. Our aim was to simulate the process of accommodation in-vitro and to measure the changes of geometry of the crystalline lens m...

Comparison of higher order aberrations with spherical and aspheric IOLs compared to normal phakic eyes.

PURPOSE To compare higher order aberrations (HOA) in AcrySof SN60AT and Acrysof IQ SN60WF intraocular lenses (IOLs) and natural crystalline lenses in an age-matched population. METHODS Sixty-nine eyes of 55 patients were examined. Group I included AcrySof spheric lenses, group II AcrySof aspheric lenses, and group III included patients with the natural crystalline lens. The HOA data were obta...

Three-dimensional magnetic resonance imaging of the phakic crystalline lens during accommodation.

PURPOSE To quantify changes in crystalline lens curvature, thickness, equatorial diameter, surface area, and volume during accommodation using a novel two-dimensional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) paradigm to generate a complete three-dimensional crystalline lens surface model. METHODS Nineteen volunteers, aged 19 to 30 years, were recruited. T(2)-weighted MRIs, optimized to show fluid-fil...

MRI study of the changes in crystalline lens shape with accommodation and aging in humans.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging was used to study changes in the crystalline lens and ciliary body with accommodation and aging. Monocular images were obtained in 15 young (19-29 years) and 15 older (60-70 years) emmetropes when viewing at far (6 m) and at individual near points (14.5 to 20.9 cm) in the younger group. With accommodation, lens thickness increased (mean ± 95% CI: 0.33 ± 0.06 mm) by a ...

Transient anterior subcapsular vacuolar change of the crystalline lens in patients after posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens implantation

BACKGROUND We present two cases of transient vacuolar changes in the anterior subcapsular space of the crystalline lens in patients after posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens implantation. CASE PRESENTATION Implantable collamer lenses (ICL) were implanted in healthy myopic patients. Vacuolar changes developed just after the irrigating procedure through the narrow space between the ICL an...
